If 2014 was the year the mystery artist shtick reached saturation point - think smoke daubed live shows, faceless press shots, mega-stylised video set-pieces and code named band members (hiya Jungle) - then Matthew Young clearly got the memo right on time, pouring out four pulsating nu-soul tunes as the days before Christmas ticked away. It'll be interesting to see if the boy with "Blond eyes, blue hair," as he snarkily describes himself on Facebook, lets us gaze on the real MY in 2015; for now, we're just content with falling in love with the perfectly sexed-up 'Bend', the pick of the bunch and a dead ringer for a breathily gorgeous long lost Frank Ocean demo. - DC
